Thank you for insisting that ethics be built into medical innovation from the first line of code rather than bolted on afterward, and for serving your country as chair of the German Ethics Council through its hardest pandemic years.

Thank you for decades of patient work toward curing chronic hepatitis B, and for being a calm, factual public voice on viruses when your country needed one most.

Thank you for proving that light can be a precision tool of synthesis, opening light-induced enantioselective catalysis to a field that long thought photochemistry too wild to steer.

Thank you for bringing what you built at Harvard's Berkman Klein Center home to Munich, and for founding the TUM Think Tank so that governments, from the OECD to Thailand's AI panel, have thoughtful scholarship to lean on when they govern technology.

Thank you for 24 years of presidency that transformed TUM into the entrepreneurial university, and for a lifetime of organometallic chemistry, more than 800 publications deep, that put molecularly defined catalysts to work in industry.

Thank you for founding TUM's computer science faculty and for a career spent making software-intensive systems something we can specify, reason about, and trust, with mathematics doing the heavy lifting.
