Thank you for probing dark energy and string cosmology at the blackboard, then walking on stage to explain the universe to the rest of us in award-winning books. Sweden hears about the cosmos in your voice, and it is a generous one.

Thank you for giving the Viking Age back its inner life, its beliefs, sorceries and fears, in The Viking Way and beyond, and for building the WIVA centre that studies the whole world the Vikings moved through. Readers in 22 languages see the North differently because of you.

Thank you for tracing how evolution built our receptors and memories, for presiding over the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, and for decades of patiently defending science against pseudoscience. Standing guard for evidence is unglamorous work, and you have done it with a smile.

Thank you for taking the flashback seriously as science, and for inventing simple imagery-competing interventions that can blunt intrusive memories after trauma. An idea as humble as a visuospatial task, deployed with rigor, is now hope for people the world over.

Thank you for making single molecules visible inside living cells, catching transcription factors in the act of finding their targets. You turned the central dogma from a diagram into something we can actually watch.

Thank you for revealing how immune cells do double duty as builders, restoring blood flow and healing injured tissue, and for co-directing SciLifeLab so the whole of Swedish life science works better. Your macrophages repair wounds; your leadership repairs silos.

Thank you for connecting the gut microbiome to heart disease and diabetes in studies of thousands of people, and for a scientific path that began with diabetic dogs and never lost its curiosity. The Goran Gustafsson Prize simply confirmed what your cohorts already showed.

Thank you for building peace research into a data-driven science, from the Uppsala Conflict Data Program's foundations to The Peacemaking Mandate, and for teaching half a century of students that peace can be studied as rigorously as war. The Peace Science Society's Founder's Medal was a long-earned thank you from an entire field.
